Massey Explanation

Explanation Of "Massey Method" Championship

Kenneth Massey is a mathematics professor at Carsen-Newman College and has created numerous sports ranking models. One of his earlier models was used by the Bowl Championship Series (BCS) to select college football teams to play in the championship. His method is a predecessor to the laxpower rating system developed in the late 1990’s where the power ratings are based on the goal margin of victory if the two teams played each other on a neutral field. Massey solved nearly the same equations through linear algebra whereas laxpower solved these equations employing a non-linear iteration scheme.
