The "CFP" is a committee consensus made up of (6) athletic directors (1) former AD, (1) coach;(2) former coaches; (1) media member. and (1) former player. Unlike algorithms the committee is not governed by strict criteria.

Consensus Rank Index (CRI)

The "CRI" is a collection of computer algorithms that employ (1) win-loss records; (2) point-margin of victory; (3) quality of wins/losses;(4) home-field advantage; and (5) strength of schedule. The methods are diverse and include the (1) RPI, (2) NPI, (3) Power Ratings (point margin of victories), (4) Powerwise using pairwise and (5) Safe3Step based on quality wins and losses and power ratings. The top eight CFP teams closely match the computer rankings. Exceptions include Oregon (9 vs 13) Texas (11 vs 21) and Oklahoma (12 vs 15) Finally Utah (13 vs 8) and Miami (18 vs 11) are off by 5 and 7.

With so many key games still to be played including conference tournaments the final five weeks will probably see major shakeups
